Raise the Bar Challenge #106

Hi everyone,

Today's weather has been positively dreadful in Melbourne with almost one month's worth of rainfall in just one day...I definitely did not want to leave the house today!

I was given the honour of being a Guest Bar-Tender at Raise the Bar this week, so please go to Raise the Bar website to check the latest challenge and other Bar-Tenders. Some great work as usual.

Here was my entry design:

Digital Image: 'Carrington' from the talented Krista Smith aka Saturated Canary, coloured in Distress Inks
Paper: City Park - Central Park cardstock from American Crafts; bazzill cardstock
Sentiment: 'No More Pencils..." from Louise Gray Creations (free jpeg coming soon); 'Congratulations' from MPress.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Crafty Ann's Challenge Top 3

Hi everyone,

Been a bit slack this week in card making as work is flat out. But here is my week so far:

  1. I attended a traditional Australian aboriginal welcome / smoking ceremony this week as we had a Yulendj community reference group for our project. Yulendj is a Wurundjeri word for "knowledge" (Wurundjeri is a Victorian aboriginal language group, located around Port Phillip bay where the city of Melbourne is). It was very inspiring and the smell of smoke brought back a lot of memories from my childhood spent at our holiday house. Even though I'm of non-aboriginal descent, it just shows that there are things that transcend cultural divides.
  2. My sister has decided she liked my card so much for my niece's christening, that they are now the invitations...but with pink ribbon instead of white.
  3. Was up very late on a work night watching BBC's North and South on youtube. Richard Armitage is very yummy might I say!
  4. My little pandamonium card won top 3 at Crafty Ann's Challenge Blog!!! So exciting!

Have a great weekend everyone!

From Your Angel

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone had a great Mother's day.

I've been extremely busy this week at work, so have been exhausted when I come home. Plus I just discovered the brilliant BBC's North and South mini-drama, so have been wrapped up in the romance and drama of Margaret Hale and John Thornton (Richard Armitage is soooo yummy!).

Here is the card my sister asked to make for our mum from my niece:

Paper: GrantArchival 'Grace Taylor Vintage Collection'; Arches 300gsm watercolour paper
Image: 'Angie' from Wee Stamps (designed by Sylvia Zet) watercoloured using Distress Inks; sentiment printed using 'Harrington' font
Embellishments: Star button from Beautron; 6mm yellow satin ribbon; holographic stars (been in my stash forever and never used!)
Other: Platinum Pearl Liquid Pearls; Diamond Stickles; 'Glossy Accents' from Ranger

Have a good week!

Lollipop Crafts Top 3

Happy Mother's Day all!

Weather wise it's a pretty awful day here in Melbourne, cold and rainy. As a result it's been a bit of a lazy Sunday in our household.

Great news! The 'vintage roses' card I made for my sister for our mum for Mother's Day was selected as a Top 3 at Lollipop Crafts!

I'm so overjoyed as it's the third challenge I've been selected as top 3/5 in this last week. It's so great to get such positive feedback, especially since I am probably my own worst critic!

Have a great weekend everyone :)

Allsorts Challenge Top 5

Hi everyone,

I hope your weekends are going well. It's a bit chilly here in Melbourne with a bit of rain.

I just wanted to share that the card I made for my niece's Christening was selected as a Top 5 winner for the Black and White challenge over at Allsorts Challenge blog!

My week has been a little bit on the downside, so hearing that I was selected to be in the top 3/5 thrice this week has been very uplifting.

Have a great weekend everyone, and if I don't post tomorrow, have a lovely Mother's Day too :)

Vintage Roses

Hi Everyone,

This card was originally supposed to be for my sister who is celebrating her very first Mother's Day, but she texted me the other day asking if I could make her a card for our mum, and also one for our mum from my niece...which I thought was really cute. Suffice it to say, the card I made for my sister did end up being for her...only she'll be giving it to our mum :)

  • Paper: Grant Archival 'Grace Taylor Vintage Collection'
  • Embellishments: I Am Roses 5cm white curly rose, 1.5cm mixed pink paper roses,  3cm white roses; pink satin ribbon; white lace organza trims; flatback adhesive pearls from KaiserCraft; 'Pretty in Pink' beaded hat pin by Louise Gray Creations;

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rolled Flower Heart

Happy Thursday everyone!

As my mother-in-law is overseas at the moment, and we gave her her Mother's Day present already, I can finally reveal her card. This one was a labour of love, and although I liked the design, I probably won't do it again. It was quite fiddly (featuring 29 hand rolled flowers) and time intensive - I spent two full days doing it (not to mention burning myself a couple of times of the hot glue gun!). On the upside, I did get to use a lot of my scrap paper and she did love it. Makes it so much more worthwhile when people appreciate your handmade cards and gifts.

Papers: Various
Embellishment: cream pearls; silver cord

Thanks everyone, and have a great day!

Shabby Chic Mother's Day pressie

Hi everyone.

I hope everyone's Wednesday is going well. I am coming down with a cold unfortunately, but I got some good news today which made me feel a little better. I made top three in the April 2012 Whimsie Doodles Challenge!!! Although ultimately I wasn't the final winner, I did get a cool blinkie to pop onto my sidebar (on the right), and since it was my first challenge, I'm feeling pretty happy about it!

And now, onto my next project...

Since Mother's Day is around the corner, I wanted to make my mum something special to show her how important she is to me. I got some inspiration from the wonderful gals at youtube: Leeanne at LuvLeeScrappin (check out her blog: and Juliana (IluvVintageScrap). These ladies are seriously talented, and I am always turning to their channels for inspiration. In fact, the little ruffled ribbon flowers featured on today's project, I learnt from Leeanne's tutorial, see below for a link.

Recipe Card:
Paper: DCWV 'The Luxury Stack'; small paper doily
Embellishment: Scalloped flower lace; small pearl chain; dusty pink satin ribbon; cream coloured tuille; white feathers, KaiserCraft pink ice pearl brad
Stamp: 'Charlotte's Dream' by KaiserCraft stamped in 'Timber Brown' StazOn ink

Handmade Ruffled Flower tutorial:

Please be sure to check out these blogs for challenges and inspiration, and these wonderful youtube sites for plenty of tutorials, inspiration and genuinely beautiful works.

Have a great day!
