DVC DT Challenge 46 - Non Traditional Christmas Card

Hi everyone,

Firstly I just wanted to thank everyone for the well wishes. I am feeling much better now.

The latest Dream Valley Challenge was creating a non-traditional Christmas card, and it certainly was a challenge, especially not using the traditional green and red colours.

I saw this card at the Hero Arts site, http://heroarts.com/blogs/club/2011/12/01/new-december-contest-november-round-2-winners/ and I was inspired.

I used a piece of kraft card stock and matted it with a piece of white cardstock, both of which had the edges distressed. I took a piece of manilla cardstock and used Stormy Sky, Mustard Seed, Evergreen Bough, Milled Lavender and Victorian Velvet Distress Inks and covered the paper.

I then cut a piece of acrylic packaging to size and ran it through my Big Shot with an embossing folder with snowflakes on it. This was adhered over the distressed cardstock using small silver brads. I highlighted some of the snowflakes with Diamond Stickles and popped some diamantes into the centres.

I cut out a flourish from a Tim Holtz die using kraft paper and finished it off with a piece of chiffon ribbon and a tag.

Be sure to head over to Dream Valley Challenges to check out the other DT designs, and other entries!

Dream Valley Challenge...Anything Goes

Hi all,

I've been ill with a Respiratory Tract Infection over the course of the last two weeks and haven't been feeling up to either crafting or posting. Gets even more annoying as Monday was my birthday, so I spent the day coughing and blowing my nose. The latest Dream Valley Challenge already has over 200 entries in its first week, so that also doesn't help on commenting!

For my DT project piece for the Anything Goes challenge, I have showcased two origami boxes that I made for my Mum's and my Mother-in-Law's birthday's in October.

Made from Graphic 45 'Le Romantique' papers, lace, flat-back pearls, clear embossing powder, light sage satin ribbon, pearl strands, paper doily, roses from 'I Am Roses' that have been sprayed with homemade Glimmer Mist and a handmade stick pin.

KaiserCraft paper, Martha Stewart around the page punch, KaiserCraft rub-on, roses from 'I Am Roses' coloured with handmade Glimmer mist, pearl strands, satin white ribbon, 'Made with Love' charm, handmade beaded hat pin.

For inspiration for these origami boxes see LuvLeeScrappin' and My Passion for Paper on youtube and you can see the tutorial by Bonnie aka SassyScrapers at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPJd4Lwcr3s

Make sure to check out the wonderful DT designs and entries for the Anything Goes Challenge at Dream Valley Challenge Blog.

Dream Valley Challenge #44 - Glitter and Bling

Happy Halloween everyone (in the Southern Hemisphere at least!),

I've had a shocking two weeks following my husbands 30th birthday party with our carpet getting pulled up in one our bedrooms and half of the hallway. Apparently when our house was being built pieces of steel were accidentally pushed through our main plumbing pipe, so toilet tissue and waste were getting caught on these, causing a build up of water which was backing up our en suite toilet, shower and basin. So finally after seven months, they came and ripped up our carpet and dug into our foundation and fixed it. We still have two gaping holes in one the bedroom, and they are coming tomorrow to refill the cement thank god! So my craft room is chaotic with rolls of carpet and underlay plus boxes of stuff from when we cleaned out the garage, and poor Hubby had to move everything from his study including his PC, which is now set up haphazardly next to the pool table! To top it all off, I have gotten a nasty cold which I can't seem to kick, and work is crazy busy!

So this weeks challenge at Dream Valley was a little tight to finish, but finish I did! Using one of Sassy Studio Designs sexy images, I came up with this beauty for the Glitter and Bling challenge:

I coloured her with distress inks, and added some fine glitter to her outfit and shoes, along with some glossy accents to her lips.

The paper is from my recycled stash and is from the 'Chantilly' collection. I punched some holes and black eyelets using my new crop-o-dile II and criss-crossed some black satin ribbon through. I also added black and light pink feathers, and made my own bling flourish using a piece of acetate and a flourish die from Tim Holtz.

I'm entering this into:

Have a great one everyone, and be sure to head over to Dream Valley Challenges to check out the other DT designs and fantastic entries!

Hugs,
Louise.

PS. To our east coast US friends, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Halloween

Hi all,

I am so excited to present my first project as a DT member of the Dream Valley Challenge Blog. Challenge 43 is Halloween.

We don't celebrate Halloween in Australia, although stores are steadily starting to stock the usual paraphernalia that accompanies the occasion. So this challenge did, in fact, challenge me which was great! I was able to put to use some characters/shapes on my Cricut cartridges, and try some new techniques.

I decided to make a tag rather than a card, as I don't really think Halloween is the kind of 'holiday' that really necessitates a card (but that's just me!)

I cut the tag from the Wrap it Up Cartridge using manilla cardstock that I had left over for my hubby's 30th birthday party invites (It is a Mission: Impossible theme with little dossiers as the invite!), so I have a heap of these left over.

The faux aged leather background is made using a technique I learnt from Split coast Stampers (http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/faux_leather_with_masking_tape/). I used Antique Linen, Forest Moss, Dusty Concord and Black Soot Distress Inks to ink up the tape, which I then coated in clear embossing powder. I did find the embossing powder flaked a little, but it added to the spooky feel of the tag!

I used some...I'm not sure what it's called!....white mesh in the background which I accordion-folded and round the edges to make them uneven.

The flower is cut from the Mother's Day bouquet cartridge, which I layered, embellished with silver/purple ink and silver stickles with a black multifaceted bead as a centre. The spiders were cut from the Wrap It Up cartridge and were embossed with Wow Neutral Ultra Shimmer embossing powder. The curly flourishes are from the Storybook Cricut cartridge. The "boo" and the bat were originally joined, from the Wrap It Up Cricut cartridge, but I separated them and embossed them with black embossing powder. It was the first time I've ever used it, and I must say, it looks amazing!

The little vampire girl is from A Day for Daisies, a freebie that I found at the blog hop (I was too late for it!) I've coloured her with distress inks, and embellished her with glossy accents, forest moss and silver stickles. I also used 3mm flat backed rhinestones to embellish the flourishes.

I will be entering this gem into:

That's all for now, but be sure to head over the Dream Valley Challenge Blog to see what the other wonderful DT's have for you!

Going dotty

Happy Sunday everyone!

Wow this weekend certainly has gone quickly. My dad asked me to make a card for a work colleague who is celebrating her birthday at the end of the month. He asked for something especially girly "with all the trimmings" and this is what I came up with. It's definitely a departure from my usual style, and I was worried I went a bit overboard, but in the end, both my dad and I were happy with the result.

I used Saturated Canary digi stamp "Jules" by Krista Smith. She is coloured using distress inks on Arches 300gsm cold press watercolour paper. Her shoes are covered with glossy accents, and embellished with white opal Liquid Pearls. Her pretty bow is embellished with a flatback self-adhesive pearl.

The designer paper is from Sugar and Spice Studio, called "Chantilly". I used the polka dots, and the stripes pattern.

The die cut is from Mpress. The oval black felt frame is from the Jenni B Collection and is embellished with rhinestones. The roses are from I Am Roses, and are make into a spray using beading wire in a tutorial I watched by CreativeKelly4rmCali (Link here). They are accented using Diamond Stickles. I made a bow using black seam binding and white tuille, and there is also some pretty fuchsia coloured satin ribbon from American Crafts there too.

The scalloped border punch is from EK Success, and is accented using white opal Liquid Pearls, and there is a black feather hiding in the left corner.

I am entering this into the following challenges:
Have a great week everyone!

Baby Boy Baptism

Hi everyone,

Here's a card I made for a friend who's nephew has just been baptised. I generally find baptism cards a bit of a challenge, but I found this gorgeous image at Di's Digi Downloads, and it was love at first sight!

The image is from Di's Digi Downloads, coloured with distress inks
.
The paper is from the Lullaby collection by KaiserCraft, the border punch is from EK Success, the sentiment I printed on my PC, and I had the little gold cross left over from my niece's baptism invites.

I am entering this is to the following challenges:

Craft Your Passions Challenge Blog will also being doing a blog hop on September 14, where I will be participating. Please be sure to stop by then, as there may be some goodies up for grabs!

Have a good one!

New baby card

Hi everyone,

It's certainly been a while since I last posted, but work has kept me busy and I've been making cards for a few friends, as well as making my first ever mini album.

I made the following card for a friend whose sister just welcomed their first baby into the world.

The image, Baby Roger Bear" was a free digi from the Ellephantastic Craft Shop <http://www.ellephantastic.co.uk/free-digi-stamps.html>, coloured with distress inks.
The paper, brads, ribbon, and sentiment were from my stash that I've had for a while. "Xavier" was cut using the Pooh Font Set on my cricut, covered with fine holographic glitter and set with Glossy Accents.

I am entering this is to the following challenges:
Craft Your Passions Challenge Blog will also being doing a blog hop on September 14, where I will be participating. Please be sure to stop by then, as there may be some goodies up for grabs!

Give BIG

Hey everyone,

Just a note that Krista of Saturated Canary is raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and has two free digis available to download at her website:

http://www.saturatedcanary.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/give-big-digis.html

If the budget is a bit stretched this month, you can still give BIG in a great way by donating your time and crafty skills to send a lovely card to someone who benefits from the work being done at St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Creativity is the key...

Happy Tuesday everyone!

The library at work was giving away a lot of free hardcover journals from the 1970s that were doing nothing but collecting dust. And whilst that might be good for somethings at a museum, it definitely is not the case with library books. I grabbed a few in the hopes of trying a new project...a hollow book...which took me forever to cut out the pages! As such I have quite a few pages that I thought I would try and recycle rather than just throw away. This is what I came up with:

I inked up the paper with some 'vintage photo' distress ink, then inked the edges with 'walnut stain.' The argyle stamp is a Tim Holtz design from Stampers Anonymous stamped in Staz-On Timber Brown and covered with clear embossing powder. The chipboard piece is from my stash, inked with 'walnut stain' distress ink and god embossing powder. The sentiment is my own made from a simple piece of copy paper, inked with 'antique linen', 'vintage photo' and 'wanlut stain' distress inks.

The brown and mesh ribbon are from my stash. The cream seam binding (yay I finally have some) and the cotton lace were purchased recently from the Craft and Quilt show. The metal button is a new range to Spotlight from Francheville called 'vintage.' (N.B It's so great to see Spotlight finally up their game with regards to scrapbooking and embellishments. It almost makes the messiness of the store worthwhile.) and the metal key is also from a new range at Spotlight called 'SteamPunk' from Solid Oak Inc (For those in Melbourne, it's in the jewellery section.)

I'm entering this into the following challenges:
 Have a great week everyone!

Louise

Geisha Girl...

Konnichiwa minna-san (Hello everyone)

I've been eyeing this little Geisha Girl, drawn by the incredibly talented Angelique at Sliejke digi stamps. The recent challenge over at Sketch n' Stash featuring Angie's sketch is the perfect layout for this little oriental beauty.

I've had this paper in my stash for ages, it was some of the first papers I brought when I got into scrapbooking. It's so great to actually be able to use them!

Craft Your Passion July GDT Challenge #121

Hi everyone,

Well July certainly has gone super fast, and so marks the end of my time as Guest Design Team Member at Craft Your Passions. It certainly has been a blast. Aside from the obvious perks of getting some free digis, it was a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, comment on some fantastic cards, and test and challenge  myself and my abilities.

The challenge for this week is based on the following sketch:

and here is my version:

The image is from Krista Smith aka Saturated Canary, and the papers are Howdy Doody from Miss Caroline by Jen Allyson from 'My Mind's Eye.' I love love LOVE these papers. They are so soft and feminine.

The flowers are from the Mother's Day Bouquet cricut cartridge coloured with distress inks. The sentiment is of my design and will be available to download as a freebie soon.

The half-pearls, yellow ribbon and lace are from my stash.

Please be sure to check out the other DT designs over at Craft Your Passions Challenge Blog.

Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair 2012

Hi Everyone,

Another post for today! Just wanted to share some projects that I've made recently.

I made this cute little backpack for my cousin who is turning 14 in August (makes me feel so old!). The instructions can be found  here at SplitCoast Stampers.

Here's the card I made for her to go inside the bag, featuring Chelsea from The Greeting Farm groovin' with her ipod. I made the backpack and card black, purple and silver as they are her favourite colours and the same colours as the decor of her bedroom. The sentiment is from Kaisercraft.I made her twin brother a wallet, which I will share soon.

Today was a very long but fun day. I went to the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair with my mum, my sister, my niece and my mother-in-law. It was ridiculously busy but we had a great day. I managed to easily spend within my budget and still come out with some great loot. Here's a pic of my new stash:

So excited to start using some of it!

Have a good one everyone :)

Hugs, Louise xoxo

Art and Creativity

Happy Saturday everyone!

It's been a bit of a crazy week for me. I was asked by our lead curator to make a card for our producer who, after two years, is leaving our project to focus on an upcoming blockbuster exhibition.

I was having a bit of trouble coming up with concept that would suit her personality. I came across this pic on Pinterest. Sorry I don't have the details! There is a watermark in the top left corner, but I can't make it out. If anyone knows the original artist, please let me know.

And here is my interpretation:

Recipe Card:

Stamps: 'Bonjour' from KaiserCraft (butterfly); 'French Market' from the Tim Holtz Collection from Visual Artistry (Artist sentiment); 'Regal Flourish' from the Tim Holtz Collection from Visual Artistry (flourish).

Paper: 'Precious Moments' from KaiserCraft

Embellishments: bakers twine from 'Typo'; seafoam white embossing powder; love heart punch from Fiskers; beaded flourishes from my stash; large paper doily.

It's been a while since I entered any challenges, since I've been busy with work and participating as a guest member of the Craft Your Passion Design Team for July. As such, I've decided to proverbially get my feet wet again :)

 Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Craft Your Passion July GDT - #120

Hi everyone,

Can you believe it's almost August! Where has the year gone?? There's only one more day until I'm going to the Melbourne Craft and Quilt Fair and I am super excited! I'm going with my mum, my sister, my little niece, and my mother-in-law, so I'm sure it's going to be extra fun with more people to share it with!

Here was my entry into the current Craft Your Passion challenge for July, the second to last. The challenge was black, white and one other colour of which I've chosen my favourite colour...blue! I decided to make a card for my dad for father's day which is in September here in Oz. He is an avid collector of model cars from movies, so I thought this vintage jag from Delicious Doodles would suit him to a T.

Be sure to head on over and check out some of the other DT designs and entries!

Have a good one everyone!
